Light is everything in photography, and in Antalya it changes a lot through the day and the year. Choosing the right time is the easiest way to get beautiful photos, so here’s how I plan sessions with my clients.
Golden hour: the hour before sunset
This is the most popular time, and for good reason. The sun is low, the light turns warm and soft, and skin looks its best. Shadows are gentle, the sea sparkles, and the sky often turns pink and gold. In midsummer the sun sets around 8 pm, and in winter before 6 pm, so we always plan the start time around your date.
Early morning: calm and quiet
Shortly after sunrise the light is soft and fresh, the old town and Hadrian’s Gate are almost empty, and the beaches are calm. It’s perfect if you’d like popular places to yourselves, and for families who are up early anyway.
Midday: best avoided
Around noon the sun is high and harsh. It creates hard shadows under the eyes and makes everyone squint. In July and August it’s also very hot. If midday is your only option, I’ll look for open shade, but morning or evening is always better.
Seasons in Antalya
- Spring (April–May): mild temperatures, green landscapes and flowers in the old town.
- Summer (June–September): long, warm evenings and the best sea colours; plan for early morning or golden hour to avoid the heat.
- Autumn (October–November): still warm, softer light and fewer crowds, one of my favourite times.
- Winter: quieter and cooler, with clear skies and low, flattering sun even in the afternoon.
What about the weather?
Antalya has lots of sunny days, but if rain or strong wind arrives on your date, we simply move the shoot to another day of your trip, free of charge.
Let me plan it for you
Tell me your dates and where you’re staying, and I’ll suggest the best start time for the light at your chosen location.
